Architecture and advantages

Why Editar Video Online

Editar Video Online is a video editor that runs entirely in your browser, using your own machine's GPU through WebGPU, WebCodecs and WebAssembly. Unlike traditional web editors, your videos are never uploaded to a server: they are read from your disk, edited locally and exported directly to your machine.

Real privacy: your videos never leave your machine

In a conventional online editor, every project means uploading the original files to the provider's cloud. A 10 GB 4K video can take hours to upload on a home connection, and during that time your material lives on a third party's servers. Here there is no upload: the browser accesses your folders through local file APIs, so work starts immediately and the material is never exposed to any server.

Real GPU acceleration, not marketing

The preview is rendered with WebGPU, the graphics standard that gives direct access to the GPU from the web. Decoding and export use WebCodecs, which exposes the system's hardware codecs, and heavy processes run on compiled WebAssembly. The result is a web editor that leverages your graphics card instead of relying on shared CPUs in a data center.

No multi-gigabyte installations

Professional desktop editors require 2 to 8 GB downloads, installers, updates and, frequently, paid licenses. This editor opens in a tab: automatic updates, zero configuration and access from any computer with Chrome or Edge, on Windows, macOS or Linux.

Comparison with other editors

Each model has its place: for complex productions, a desktop editor is still the right tool. For agile edits, the difference is where the processing happens.

Frequently asked questions

Are my videos uploaded to the internet when I edit?

No. Editar Video Online uses the browser's local file APIs: videos are read and processed directly from your disk. Nothing is uploaded to any server, so there is no upload wait time and no risk of third parties accessing your material.

Why do regular online editors upload my files?

Because they edit the video on their servers and return the result to you. That model requires uploading large files (minutes or hours depending on your connection), consuming someone else's storage quota and trusting your material to a third party. Our model is possible because recent browsers include WebGPU and WebCodecs, which allow editing and exporting with hardware acceleration inside the page itself.

Is it free?

Yes, during the public beta the editor is free and requires no account to start.

What do I need for it to work well?

Up-to-date Chrome or Edge on a desktop computer, with hardware acceleration enabled (WebGPU). Without WebGPU the browser would fall back to software processing, which is much slower.

Where is it faster than a traditional online editor?

In everything that depends on the network: opening large projects (no prior upload), previewing (no streaming from a server) and availability (no remote processing queues). Export uses your machine's GPU instead of shared CPUs.

Try it with your own material

Open the beta, select a folder on your machine and edit without uploading anything.
